For students in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics considering joining the Suga Laboratory: our educational philosophy, the kind of students we're looking for, day-to-day lab life, and the strengths our graduates carry forward.
Rather than simply studying from textbooks, our lab emphasizes "self-driven, proactive activity" — finding problems for yourself and exploring solutions through experiments and simulation.
Many of our research themes are based on collaborative projects with companies, so beyond academic inquiry, you can acquire practical, living skills and experience that will be directly useful in society after graduation.
With the spread of 5G/6G communication, autonomous driving, wireless power transfer, and more, a wide variety of radio waves now fill the space around us. The Suga Laboratory researches next-generation wireless technology from two complementary angles: "developing new wireless devices" and "using radio waves efficiently while protecting the radio environment from unwanted noise."
We design and develop compact, high-performance antennas and circuit devices operating in high-frequency bands (microwave/millimeter-wave). We pursue the elemental technologies needed to transmit and receive radio waves efficiently and achieve high-speed communication at low power.
To prevent radio-frequency interference between devices (EMC problems), we develop and evaluate materials and shielding structures that absorb or block unwanted radio waves. We also research techniques for precisely measuring the complex relative permittivity and permeability of building materials and composite materials.
We research sensing technology and applied radio-wave systems that use the properties of radio waves to measure and detect the condition or position of an object without touching it.
※ Every theme combines simulation analysis with hands-on experiments and measurement, so you can learn consistently from theory through to practical application.
Our graduates go on to thrive in many fields — telecom carriers, electrical equipment manufacturers, automotive, infrastructure companies, IT, government, and graduate school. The "measurement skills," "deep knowledge of electromagnetics," and "presentation ability" cultivated through research are highly valued across a wide range of engineering fields.
